PRIVATE and PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN NEPAL

PRIVATE VS PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN NEPAL:                                                                                                                                                                                         With time, Nepal has made a huge jump in the field of education. And with the process of development in this sector, today we find mostly three types of school public, private and community. Public schools, an old form of schools is managed by the government itself and private institutions, a new form is managed by the owner of the institute. Similarly, Community schools are the newest types which are managed by the members of the community.                                                                                                                                                                                        When we talk about the public schools it hints us the place where the poor people’s children study. And same is the case for the community ones. But community schools are managed properly than the public ones and the teachers are more devoted or are made more devoted towards their work through the strong management unlike in government schools where teachers are either found exposing to sun in the winter or roaming towards the private institutions for extra income. Thanks to the weak management!                                                                                                                                                                                                       Some public schools problem does not end with the teachers, somewhere sometime students even have to study in the field (chaur) due to the classroom problems. And due to this sort of arrangement, classes cannot be effective every time like in the time of rain or in excessive cold or heat. Similarly, Unavailability of books at time also support for “no class”. Hence when the classes’ gets disturb the public school students are bound of getting quality education as a consequence, results of public schools also go down which adds woes to the overall result of the country.                                                                                                                                                                                                         Talking about the results who better than private institutions gets around one hundred percentage which ultimately help to balance the overall results of Nepal. A good management with excellent teachers is the major factor for private schools’ good performance. This proves that the students who are future of the nation are imparted with the quality education in private institution. But it is sad to see that maximum private schools and colleges are out of reach for poor people due to their demanding fee structures.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                By private it does not state that these institutions are all good. In the name of good education so many parents and students are being cheated by the private institutions by taking higher fees and imparting students with low quality of education by keeping “unqualified cheap” teachers and also not conducting extracurricular activities despite of the charge taken from parents. And also, by public it does not indicate that education here is substandard. In recent times we have heard the government institution coming up with high results and as high as one hundred percent. And maximum doctors, engineers, lawyers, pilots, bankers working these days did study themselves in public schools.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   But now, when we see the overall education condition in the country it would be fair to say that this sector has been as tainted as food in the market. Hence, government should come up with plans and policies that would raise the standard of both public and private institutions. Inspection is also required by the concerned authority to improve the quality in public as well as private institute. And utilization of the education tax taken from students in private school can help for the proper development of education in public schools. So, the public school would be as competitive as private and everyone would get same level of knowledge. Like in the U.S. and other developed countries, we hope that public institute in Nepal will get popularity and become students’ first choice and continue to gift abundant manpower to the nation.                                                 NAME: SUDESH THAPA

  1. education in Nepal needs to be improved and i too believe that public schools need more attention because private schools are scarce in the rural/poor areas of Nepal and do little to help those impoverished. i personally just retuned home to america yesterday after a 2 week trip to the village of Janakpur in western nepal (nearest city is Dhangadi). I went with buildOn which builds schools in impoverished villages. Good public education trully is the key to a better future for the youths throught nepal.
