THE PRE MONSOON:
Earlier, than expected, the umbrellas and raincoats sales in the Nepalese market got on the rise; my relatives living in the valley had some relief on the water problem for a certain period of time; my family and friends back in Biratnagar, one of the hot place of Nepal, really enjoyed the cool climate for a week and most Nepalese people might have got confused about whether they were really in Nepal or not, or at least I did, since there was no load shedding for some limited days. And the cause of all these things is the same i.e. the pre-monsoon rainfall. About seven degrees rise in the maximum temperature in last six days in Kathmandu valley have been observed and also the increment of temperature in other parts of the country have been recorded as a result there has been difficulty for maximum people even while sleeping at night due to high temperature and also due to the problem of mosquitoes bite. Similarly, diseases like diarrhea and others have been seen in some people in city area like Kathmandu due to the unusual season fluctuation. And again the cause for these is the same that benefitted the same people at times and again now hampering the same people, a dual agent, i.e. after effect of so called “the pre-monsoon rainfall”. The Pre monsoon rainfall has been a talk of the town at the moment because of its unusual character observed this year. When I was travelling by a tempo last week, one old grandfather sitting side by me was really upset about the climate change and was also concerned about its consequences. He was worried if this continues like it is, than farmers of Nepal won’t able to produce adequate amount of food since the chance of rain in the time of cultivation could minimize and the appropriate amount of food grains cannot be produced. So, is it really the cause of global warming, the inevitable phenomenon, according to some people or is it the global warming, the human cause, according to some other people. Whatever, the effect of it is seen on everything, moveable or immovable including humans? Who is the real cause of this then? The rich/developed countries would be the simplest correct of answer to give. Since their activities have been more environmental unfriendly. For instance: they are busy on performing nuclear plants, scientific experiments and busy on expanding Industrialization. And in this way they have been the major contributors for carbon emissions which is the major contributor for the global warming, today. Hence, its impact has hit more on the poor/underdeveloped nation like Nepal which is also under geographical risk. For instance: the Himalayan range mountains have started to melt at higher rate than before since the temperature of the world has been rising on the scale and last year it reached at its high after 35 years. It’s not only the Himalaya getting affected, creatures like birds, animals, insects and immovable things like trees, herbs, shrubs they have also been affected. Ultimately, people and whole ecosystem is being affected. Therefore, it’s all Nepal along with other hardships nation getting unnatural due to the warming. Save People, Save Himalayas, Save Ecosystem. Rich nations let us eat enough and then “please do not disturb” for sound sleep! Name: SUDESH THAPA
